You are here: Home News Groove Assassins goes Top10
Date: 19 July 2010
Groove Assassin's reach the Top 10 on Traxsource having shot up the chart, lets hope that this goes all the way. It's a classic vocal house track with the gorgeous vocals from Mina Jackson and excellent mixes from Souldynamic we managed to catch up with the Groove Assassin on his busy schedule... 1. How long have you been producing and DJ´ing for? I’ve been Djing for about 20 years & producing seriously for about 15. 2. Where do you get your musical inspiration from? I’m an avid disco, funk, jazz funk & soul fan and been collecting many years and love my old-skool electro break-dance. I’m influenced a lot by those genres, also growing up listen to early house from the likes of Todd Terry, MAW, Smack, Larry Heard , Derrick May , Roger Sanchez ,Dj Pierre and many others, I have a very broad taste in music and can play anything from deep soulful house to peak time bangers to chill out beach beats. 3. Do you prefer performing or producing? I guess performing most definitely seeing a crowd react to a track or remix of mine is truly an inspiring and getting feedback really helps my direction on the production front. 4. How was it to work with Mina Jackson? Mina is a true professional! It was amazing to get to work with her. I became a big fan when I first heard her so the chance to work with her was too good to be true. Hopefully we’ll get the time to work on a part 2. MJ Big up the Omni Music crew! 5. Have you ever had an embarrassing moment when you are performing? Probably like most vinyl DJs …taking the wrong record off is a classic … I’ve done that a fair few times back in the days of vinyl. 6. What is the best selling record to date? Hard to say…. but I’d probably have to say the remixes I have done for Defected , their the main engine room of the broader house scene and have great marketing worldwide so id imagine it would be one of those remixes they have the power to push a record to a wider audience. 7. What has been your best country to perform in? That’s a real hard one each country & gig is different …I loved the scene in Jakarta 4000+ people on a Sunday afternoon dancing and singing to soulful house was the tip of the iceberg ! Recently Bali was great to I got to play a real layback eclectic sunset gig which was a great chance to play music I normally just listen to at home or when travelling , very spiritual experience. 8. What is your idea of a good night out? Start off with some good grub and a fine wine, a sprinkle of good friends, some dope beats and a few disco treats then I’m all set until at least 8am … the odd Sambuca or 2 always gets the night going.
