Q & A with the Villa Gombao Inc
1. How do you know each other?
We´re from the same city, we live just a few streets from each other and we have known each other for 10 years. We have always known the same people and when we have all been together we always ended up talking together about music. After a while we would get together every week checking and playing our new tunes on the decks. From then onwards we connected and we have grown up together. Soon we were getting and sharing our first sets as djs. The connection in the dj box was evident and that made us think about getting in the studio together.
2. How long have you been producing together?
In 2006 we started to do our own edits and versions of tracks. It wasn’t long before we were working on a decent setup in the studio. All those early tracks are still in our wallets and we are convinced we will go back and work on some of our abandoned projects so they will finally see the light of day. It was at the end of 2009 when we started working in the studio to the rhythm that we are going now.
3. Who are your favourite djs and producers?
Here we each have our own answer but we have many in common. From the start we have follow the well known djs, who are considered the fathers of the style. We´re talking about People like Larry Levan, Miguel Migs o Masters At Work for example. Now we have the pleasure of having a good relationship with some of those and some who are our inspiration people like Andy Ward, Tuccillo, Sonny Fodera, Kiko Navarro and Uner. We are totally drawn in by the works of artists such as Dennis Ferrer, Atjazz and Jimpster and we admire the charisma of people like Martin Solveig and Dj Meme. As you can see its difficult to limit our favorite artists in to one style.
4. Where does your musical style come from? Who are you influenced by?
Our roots have been and always will be House, and you can notice that in our sets. Artists like Kiko Navarro or Dennis Ferrer have been a realy influence on our style. These days our sets are based on house but we also feel comfortable playing a bit more deep and tech. These influences we have also taken into the studio.
5. You have some excellent gigs coming up. Which are you most looking forward to?
Yeah in honesty its a good summer for us. But if anything we are really looking forward to a couple of dates in August. On the 7th we will be in the ElectroMar festival in Murcia featuring in a line up including artists like Josh Wink, and also on the 28th August we will be on the terrace of Space in Ibiza.
6. Which session have you most enjoyed in your life?
We have had some great moments. We would probably say the night when we played together in the Main Room at Pacha Ibiza. It was nearly a to capacity and the atmosphere in the dj box was really special. We were with Andy Baxter, who played an incredible set, Tuccillo, Deep Josh, Angel Linde etc. The energy of that night made it really special.
7. What are your plans for the future?
Work work work! At the moment we are really concentrating on the studio work, and we hope that all this work is going to be bearing fruit in the next few months and help us create a little space for us in the scene.
8. Where do you see yourself a year from now?
Its difficult to say. We´re clear that work is the way and the results are just coming. We don’t control all the factors, but we are trying to do whatever we can do to keep growing
